I had a storm and now I don't have a
picture. How do I fine tune my dish outside? |

Many storms produce heavy winds that can
turn your dish on the pole, causing a loss of picture. To correct
the problem, try these Five Easy Steps To Dish Alignment. |

Step 1:
Loosen the mount-to-pole bolts enough to
rotate the antenna on the ground pole. Rotate the entire dish and
mount on the ground pole, aligning the side of the polar mount to
south as indicated by a compass. Tighten mount-to-pole bolts. |

Step 2:
Place your carpenter's square alongside
the polar mount. With your dish mover, move the dish so that the
back of the dish and the polar mount are at right angles to each
other. To make sure your pole is level, use a
post level.

Step 3:
Loosen the mount-to-pole bolts slightly.
Rotate the dish east and west just enough to get the best picture
possible on your TV, on your highest satellite. Tighten bolts.
Adjust the elevation bolt up or down to fine tune the picture. Lock
down the elevation bolt. Do not use the elevation bolt for any other
adjustments.

Step 4:
With your dish mover, move the dish to
the farthest satellite east or west. Find a viewable channel.

Step 5:
Put a piece of masking tape on the
ground pole and another piece directly above it on the polar mount
canister. Make a straight line across the two. This is a starting
point for the tuning phase. Once you have a picture on your TV, from
the front of the dish, gently lift up on the face of the dish about
an inch or so. Does this make the picture better? See corrective
action below. |

Corrective Action on a
Western Satellite
- If the picture got better,
loosen the mount-to-pole bolts. Rotate the entire mount and dish
on the ground pole to the west about an inch on your reference
line. Tighten bolts and move the dish with your dish mover until
the best picture appears. Repeat until picture degrades by
lifting up and pushing down on the face of the dish.
- If the picture got worse, loosen
the mount-to-pole bolts. Rotate the entire mount and dish on the
ground pole to the east about 1/8" on your reference line.
Tighten bolts and with your dish mover, move the dish until the
best picture appears. You may have to adjust your polarity.
Repeat until picture degrades by lifting and pushing down on the
face of the dish.
- If you are using an eastern
satellite, just reverse the direction you rotate the system on
the ground pole.

From time to time cable ends can get
